Q magazine front cover analysis

Q magazine aims to capture a very broad audience, it covers all sorts of genres, Films and other topics The price of £3.99 shows the audience must be able to afford a more pricey magazine. This is not the sort of magazine an average student would be able to afford on a weekly basis or an average teen this is why it has to cover a wider verity of subjects than for instance NME.

The Main image on this cover is on Take That’s come back, this is a very popular band that’s age range is phenomenal as many adults enjoy them and have seen the band develop, the younger generation will have heard of them but without Robbie Williams in the frame. As you can see all are smiling this portrays them as happy to be back together as a group again. They are all bundled on top of each other this shows an element of brother hood and togetherness as if they are having fun again after so much time apart. They all are wearing black leather jackets this makes look like a gang.
The colours used for this magazine fits very well, the black jackets match the lead article also with the white background this makes them stand out fully. There is also a lot of red used as this links to the logo. The gold makes the editions look as if it’s a special because of the Q awards interviews.
The lead article Take that back for good ? Suggests that there are questions about there return this incises the audience in to find out more without the back for good ? There would be no topic and the magazine wouldn’t generate as much attention. The text isn’t very bold but because its on the white background this draws it out a lot more. It looks like Times New Roman font which is one of the most commonly used fonts on computer. They have also chosen to use capitals for Take That as they want it to stand out even more, but they have not done the same for back for good ? This is because they are trying to get as much focus on take that.
The third left of the page is another article about a popular band called green day its on the far left because people will notices this on the shelves and will want to read more because they are a very big band they used red and gold for the letter colouring as it keeps with the theme as much as it possibly can the reason they didn’t use one colour because it wouldn’t stand out as much and most people would just notice the green day as its a lot bolder.
For the cover lines they have listed thew bands featured in there live blowout ! Article, they have tried to use slang as blow out is two words not one also the exclamation mark tries to make it look exciting and that it needs attention, they use the colour black for the lettering which of thought was the only down side to the layout with this magazine as it clashes with the shadows and the main image a bit. They have also used all the colours they have previously used on the page red, gold, black and white this is a keeps the theme running smoothly.

This magazine uses only one image unlike other magazines that show small images all over the page this maybe because this is an exclusive interview so they want to get as much attention to that as possible. It also does not use a pull quote this is because the lead article asks you a question with back for good ?. The fonts and colours used make the magazine look very professional as there isn’t to many different styles of text it gives it more of a house style.
