NME double page spread analysis

NME have chosen to uses a mixture of images to show The Inbetweeners at work, the images have a clear link to article and their TV personalities in most of the images they are doing childish work tasks, they are al messing around and are not taking it seriously. This is a deliberate ploy by NME as the Inbetweeners are known for their immaturity. The stand first for this article is “meet our new work experience kids” It’s clever how they use the word kids as they are actually teenagers but because of their child like personalities NME have gone for kids. The text is divided into two fonts one for the captions under the images the other for the main text. The captions under the images have a heading that tells what they are doing in the image. The target audience is very large as The Inbetweeners is a very commercial show and most people have seen it, NME have defiantly tried to make them like their charters all are in their collage uniform and being childish. The tone and register is designed to connect with a teenage audience words like thrashing, pranks and shredding are words that most adults would never use but perhaps some teens may.

Q double page spread analysis

The double page spread for this issue of Q magazine is of Take That, There is a pull quote used saying “there aren’t enough events in music anymore – and this is an event.” This links very well to there come back and will excite the audience making them think its going to be a big thing to see. There are two lead images, the fist image is shot to make Take That look god like raised above the other walker who have also been blurred out as they are walking but Take That are all in focus, The second image is of them jumping this is an action shot shows excitement and how together they are now. There is a persistent use of a T because it links with the groups name the T on the first page it very oversized and covers over the text. There is also another T to start the paragraph as Take That. The text on the top of the first page is also very strange as it is Take THAT its obvious the issue is trying to get the name of the band is as much as possible in as much different verity’s as it can. The way the band is portrayed is based on the theme togetherness they all are in black doing the same thing at the same time. Q really wants to push forward their come back as it’s a very popular subject that has been discussed for years. The house style is generally always the same using the red and white from the Q logo. The target audience is very broad because Take That are very popular with a lot of generations this is why Q have chosen to make a very big deal about this subject

Q contents page analysis.

Q uses images in there contents page to connect with the articles featured, Using an image with the page number embossed on it there is also more information down the sides with the page number to give you a brief idea about what the article covers.
The pictures used are very clear and stand out; some also link with the article like the Take that image. There are also pictures of double page spreads of live performances.
The text is very clear and easy to read making the page number and headline bold then using a smaller text for additional information. There is also a small piece that is called Q review this is in red text as is an extract from under the q awards, this is these different sort of topics than are what usually featured, they need to stand out more because the reader is not expecting them to be included. Q uses a double contents page to make everything look less jammed in also to make articles stand out a lot more fully. The magazine is very clear and easy to read all charters are a very safe readable style.

Magazine front cover analysis

This is the front cover of the latest NME magazine, NME use the same style of front cover generally and this is the cover I have chosen to analyses. The Main image is of the hit TV show Inbetweeners , I noticed how they are all in the characters uniforms which makes you notice them without the costumes they may well not be as noticeable to the audience this is why NME have not displayed them in there everyday clothing. They are all looking at the camera with there noticeable expressions from the TV show also Will in black looks as if he isn’t messing around while the others are causing mayhem this also links to there characters personalities.
The background displays poster pull outs from previous magazines also Simon far left is carrying a collection of NME magazines, this could well be a ploy by NME maybe they are trying to show the Inbetweeners love NME the audience will be lead into thinking they are big fans of NME and possibly buy it all the time.
The pull quote “we really enjoyed our unpaid time here” is meant to link to the image it’s a very innocent and doesn’t really draw the reader in to much, the text style used looks scruffy and really stands out form the other text as the rest looks very clean and well presented this has been used to good effect it stands out on the black background, also it kind of links to there characters personas e.g. Childish and different.
The lead article “Meet NME’s new work experience kids, is almost childish as The Inbetweeners are Teenagers not kids the colour scheme has been used well the white on black is a good contrast and helps it stand out fully.
The Cover lines text is in red, black and white depending on the background colour, they have placed the main two other articles down the left with additional information on the headline this draws the reader in to find out more about the article. They have chosen to put this on the left third because this is what we see on the shelves so this will catch the reader’s eyes it’s a very clever layout and has been used to good effect. On the right they list the other bands and topics that feature these bands obviously have smaller articles and are not as popular of a topic as the ones on the right side.
In this addition of NME there is only the logo and price on the skyline usually a skyline will advertise special attractions but on this addition they have chosen against it maybe feeling it would effect the house style.
NME look to try and capture a audience of 14-24 year olds who are into music, that attend gigs, Spend around 500£ on clothes a year and Use the internet regularly, this is why you see a lot of new fashion, Gig reviews and Internet links all the way through the magazine.
The cover for this issue is appealing to readers because it focuses on the most talked about TV program at the moment. Young adults and teenagers will know of The Inbetweeners through countless reasons, this is why NME have taken the characters from the show and not the actors because they are more recognizable. NME list popular bands stories this also draws the reader in as they are the talking point between friends and some readers will find it interesting to know what the band is doing.
I think the front cover is very good as it has focused on a popular TV show that a broad audience watch, The colour scheme works will as there are no words that are distorted by the background. They capture there audiences needs with popular bands and topics. In my opinion they make the perfect magazine for a wide audience.

NME contents page analysis

NME is a specific house style for their contents page, using only one page to show all that the magazine offers to readers. The characters used in NME are very broad there is almost a different font for each featured articles pull quote but all are very understandable and easy to read. Each article has a pull quote that will interest readers who like or may be interested in the featured band they link to what they are doing or what they are feeling at the moment. The text below the pull quote will give you a deeper understanding of what the articles are about. The images used represent the bands and some are smaller forms of main images used in there article this gives the page a very togetherness feel. Each photo also has the page number embossed on it so make the magazine easy to navigate especially for visually orientated readers. There is also an advertisement box for magazinedirect this offers delivery services for NME this is a very good ploy as readers may read this and subscribe. There is also a small box called plus this will direct the reader to features that are used every week in the magazine, they have chosen to not display images with these topics as most readers will already know that these feature.
The whole magazine is very clear for readers to understand and will help them navigate around the magazine, the images link well to there topics making it obvious they like to attract a visually orientated audience.

Q magazine front cover analysis

Q magazine aims to capture a very broad audience, it covers all sorts of genres, Films and other topics The price of £3.99 shows the audience must be able to afford a more pricey magazine. This is not the sort of magazine an average student would be able to afford on a weekly basis or an average teen this is why it has to cover a wider verity of subjects than for instance NME.

The Main image on this cover is on Take That’s come back, this is a very popular band that’s age range is phenomenal as many adults enjoy them and have seen the band develop, the younger generation will have heard of them but without Robbie Williams in the frame. As you can see all are smiling this portrays them as happy to be back together as a group again. They are all bundled on top of each other this shows an element of brother hood and togetherness as if they are having fun again after so much time apart. They all are wearing black leather jackets this makes look like a gang.
The colours used for this magazine fits very well, the black jackets match the lead article also with the white background this makes them stand out fully. There is also a lot of red used as this links to the logo. The gold makes the editions look as if it’s a special because of the Q awards interviews.
The lead article Take that back for good ? Suggests that there are questions about there return this incises the audience in to find out more without the back for good ? There would be no topic and the magazine wouldn’t generate as much attention. The text isn’t very bold but because its on the white background this draws it out a lot more. It looks like Times New Roman font which is one of the most commonly used fonts on computer. They have also chosen to use capitals for Take That as they want it to stand out even more, but they have not done the same for back for good ? This is because they are trying to get as much focus on take that.
The third left of the page is another article about a popular band called green day its on the far left because people will notices this on the shelves and will want to read more because they are a very big band they used red and gold for the letter colouring as it keeps with the theme as much as it possibly can the reason they didn’t use one colour because it wouldn’t stand out as much and most people would just notice the green day as its a lot bolder.
For the cover lines they have listed thew bands featured in there live blowout ! Article, they have tried to use slang as blow out is two words not one also the exclamation mark tries to make it look exciting and that it needs attention, they use the colour black for the lettering which of thought was the only down side to the layout with this magazine as it clashes with the shadows and the main image a bit. They have also used all the colours they have previously used on the page red, gold, black and white this is a keeps the theme running smoothly.

This magazine uses only one image unlike other magazines that show small images all over the page this maybe because this is an exclusive interview so they want to get as much attention to that as possible. It also does not use a pull quote this is because the lead article asks you a question with back for good ?. The fonts and colours used make the magazine look very professional as there isn’t to many different styles of text it gives it more of a house style.

Mixmag double page spread

Mixmag has chosen to uses many pictures from live gigs to link with the theme The most amazing shows in dance music, the main image is of a DJ he is in a cage this is very different than other dance gigs and its obviously very special the light show looks fantastic and its obvious a dance audience would find this exciting. There are also two other smaller images one of a medium close up of the DJ this is to give you a clear look at him as in the other picture he is obscured by the cage. The other image is showing him using his equipment inside the cage this is a good image because it will interest other DJ in showing the equipment he uses.
The pull quote is also very good as it uses word like “behind the scenes”, “spectacular” and “stun” this will overwhelm the readers into reading the full article and gives you the idea that these gigs really are phenomenal.
The text is very bold and uses capital letters persistently; there is also smaller text for the question and answer section because there is a lot more text.
This double page spread links very well with the dance scene it will excite the reader as it really does look like an amazing gig the text is very neat and clear and the colours don’t clash.

Mixmag contents page analysis.

Mixmag use two pages for there contents page, which could be a bad idea as they are not presented as a double page spread and it doesn’t tell you there is another contents page on the other side this could mislead the reader into thinking there is only one.
The images used are linked to articles and many pictures have the page number embossed on them this is a good technique as the picture draws a lot more attention than the text so its good to use this idea for the bigger articles Mixmag also uses a different type of font for the numbering as well this makes the article feel a lot more important. The text is very clear there is only a different more oddly shaped lettering used for contents the numbers used on the pictures match this. The text on the first page uses a bold text for the article headline the smaller font below to describe the article in short, it’s very easy to read text not distorted or given an effect which is good as it gives the magazine a clear house style. The text on the second page is relatively the same except for they underline the article these articles are Fashion, Tech and music these three articles feature in every issue this is why they are on the second page because its not as important for the reader to know this is included as its in every issue. The pitures used for the contents page link very cleverly to the dance scene the main image on the contents page looks like two girls at a club this links to the article well as its called don’t stay in : your complete party guide. The main image on page two is also very good as it looks very fashion orientated because of the elegant pose and the way she is dressed is very different and out there. They also use images of artists featured.
Mixmag use a very pacific house style for there contents page, using two page one for main articles that don’t always feature the other for main topics that always feature. The pictures and charters match well and you can see the links with a photo and article.

Mixmag front cover analysis

Mixmag is a magazine designed to interest an audience who go clubbing, listen to dance music and are interested in Djing. Its aimed at eighteen year olds and upwards as you have to be eighteen to get into most clubs. Also a lot of Dance gigs are eighteen and above due to the drug culture linked with clubs.

The main image is of a popular dance DJ called Deadmau5, the image displays him as powerful he is raised above the crowd you can see the crowds arms raised. It is obvious the magazine wants to make his gig look as amazing as possible with flashing lights, smoke and a crowd looking like disciples. This is a very good main image it looks very dance orientated and capture the seen very well.
The Main article The most amazing shows in dance music! Links well with the main image as the photo looks like an amazing gig and will make you want to see others like this. They have chosen a theme of orange and white text for the text on the cover to make it look clear and bold as white stands out on the black and the same applies with the orange it also gives the magazine more of a house style. The main article also have other features that are listed below. They list popular dance artists so they can breach out to a very broad dance audience it also says and more…, this will excite the reader and will hopefully make him want to find out who else features in this magazine. The text is in capitals so it looks very bold and clear also the font is very easy to read. They also use exclamation marks to make it look exciting and bold this is commonly used in magazines.
The Third left lists three articles that feature in the magazine, we’re in your town! Will make all readers think that there town is featured even though this is not the case. It is a clever ploy as people always want to know what going on close by. There is a text underneath the article saying the Mixmag tour returns, this shows you the article is about the Mixmag tour readers will be interested to know if the tour is nearby as they will most likely be regular readers of Mixmag. Another article on the third left is why raves beat gigs, this is a popular topic of discussion in the dance community, people who will prefer gigs will want to read to see why and how raves are better and the people who prefer raves will be excited to find out more and will be able to possibly find out more about the rave community. Win a chalet at the big reunion for you +5 is a very good article to put on the third left as it’s a prize everybody wants to win something even maybe the not so regular readers this will make the audience think they are in with a good chance of winning. The cover lines ask the reader a lot of rhetorical question as it’s a good technique commonly use because it will make the reader ask himself the question then if he/she doesn’t know the answer they may well want to find out more about the topic in question. They also put a lot of artists names in the cover lines also because they want the magazine to look as if they cover a lot of artists for a broader audience. They have also chosen to box the text to make it stand out more instead of having it distorted against the background. Again they list more artists under plus this is a trend I have noticed with the magazine.

Mixmag uses a variety of techniques to capture an audience, they list a lot of popular artists, other prizes and discuss popular topics in the dance scene. They use clever images that link well with there target audience, using only a main image makes the photo look a lot more special. The text is very clear, bold and makes the magazine look professional .
